Small Oil Painting of Sunflower on Watercolor Paper Using Underpainting Color

Oil Painting of Sunflower by artist K. Joann Russell
"Sunflower #92"
3 7/8 x 5 7/8" oil on watercolor paper

As the saying goes, "time flies when you're having fun"! It's been awhile since I posted a new small painting. This small sunflower painting brings to a close my series of paintings comparing drying times of oils and acrylics. Results: yes, very weather dependent in the Pacific Northwest!

This sunflower painting has a beautiful glow to it because of the golden yellow underpainting I painted on the gessoed watercolor paper. The beauty of using a color in the underpainting is that it can be used for parts of the final image made with additional paint layers.  Be sure to click on the photo to enlarge it and see the details better.

Have you checked my small paintings page recently?  Several, including the abstract greeting cards, have sold. Most of those have been replaced with recent small landscapes.
